How to publish a website? |
|
If you have built a website you will need to know how to upload a website to a server in order to get the website live or online. Although many web hosts have online file uploaders, it will take a very long time to upload each file individually. You will want to use an FTP client to do a bulk upload of your entire site with one click.
FTP?
FTP stands for File Transfer Protocol - the method by which files are transferred over the web. It's used to transfer files between computer accounts, folder share, and to upload web pages from computers to website host servers.
Once you have installed your FTP program you will need to enter some settings so that it can connect to your online server. You will need to enter your username and password which will have been provided by your web host. You'll also need to enter the URL and name of your website and when they're entered you can just click on connect and the FTP program will do its business and connect to your server.
However, if there is no tool for publishing, you can always use FTP. There are different FTP softwares available on the market. Filezila is most famous FTP software which is totally free of cost available on internet.
When all files of your website are uploaded then open your browser and type in your site URL and you should be able to see your website. Any time you make changes to your website, you will need to FTP the updated file to your web host. The software will prompt you to rename or overwrite existing files. If you are updating, you will choose to overwrite the old file. This prompt is there to prevent you from overwriting files with duplicate names by accident. |
